How do we evaluate bookmakers?

You can find a lot of bookmaker review websites on the Internet, which are not edited by experienced players or sports betting experts, but by simple marketers and advertising copywriters. Here at MightyTips, however, you can only read professional descriptions that have been put together by real experts after evaluating real practical test series.

In order for you to get access to the necessary information in a more digestible way, we have divided the descriptions into smaller building blocks, which if you stack them on top of each other, you will get the complete picture. In other words, basically everything you need to know about the bookmaker.

All such smaller segments mentioned above are scored separately, on a scale from 0 to 10, where “0” means “absolutely negative” and “10” means “absolutely positive” qualities and experiences.

1. Usability

Basically, we tried to remain as neutral as possible at each point and really focus only on what the section wants to talk about.

In this case, we examined how easy it is to manage and how user-friendly the dedicated site is. How intuitive it is, how easy it is to navigate, how quickly we can find the race or match we want to bet on, and how smoothly we can place our bets.

If we found that a page loads too slowly or an interaction is too complicated, we reflected on that when scoring, but we also took into account how friendly or loud a page’s design is, for example.

2. Prize multiplier

This is perhaps one of the easiest sections to evaluate, as the numbers usually don’t lie. The standard practice here is to randomly select 20 games from each sport from the weakest, medium-strong and strongest leagues and calculate the average of the odds recommended by the bookmaker.

If this value is lower than the competitor’s values, we will deduct, if it is higher, we will of course increase. If the numbers show average values, we give 5-6 points out of 10, if they are much better, we sometimes go all the way to 10.

3. Mobile

In this section, we evaluate the mobile versions of the bookmaker’s website and the available applications. Here we take into account transparency, how clean or cluttered the mobile view is, how fast the navigation is, what hardware requirements, how the software works.

Of course, we also test the mobile-friendly contacts separately, even with browsers such as Chrome, Safari, or Firefox, which in many cases yield different results.

And, of course, we also test apps developed for Android or iOS separately, sometimes using newer, and sometimes using older mobile phones with lower performance.

If a mobile version or application crashes, loads slowly, exits, or is simply imperceptibly crowded, we don’t really give it more than 1-4.

4. Bonuses and promotions

If a bookmaker offers a high registration bonus and also has 3-4 promotions that can be used well, it is almost certain that it will receive a high score from us in this section. (7-10) If, on the other hand, you request too many rotations for all of this, you will be mercilessly scored.

In other words, it is in vain that the office offers, for example, a great HUF 30,000 bonus, if it does so with a 50x risk. In this case, this means that the player will not see a penny worth of winnings until he bets at least HUF 1.5 million.

Looking at it this way, it doesn’t seem like such a great offer anymore, which is why the office can’t expect a positive evaluation from us.

5. Betting types

In this section, we mainly observe how many different markets and in what depth the bookmaker covers the world’s sports events, starting with the most popular sports, through the less popular ones, all the way to e-sports. We rate the bookmaker if you can bet on lesser-known sports, less significant leagues, while bringing all the mandatory prestigious events as a matter of course.

But we’ll score you if you only focus on the top events of popular sports.

We are aware that a significant number of players primarily bet on football, but at the same time we also know that there is a sports life beyond football, in fact. We especially appreciate any office where you can bet on, for example, political elections or the results of television shows.

In addition to all of this, of course, it is also important that the entertainment does not stop at the 1×2-type betting options, but that we see, for example, handicaps and other combined options as well, preferably in a live game, or even stream-based.

In short, the more diverse a market is, the higher score the bookmaker receives from us in this section.

6. Reliability

In better places, the operation of sports betting offices is bound by strict rules.

The better bookmakers do not only comply with these strict rules, but also cooperate with external, independent monitoring companies, specifically with the aim of making their customers feel safer with their money. However, there are still many scumbags on the border of illegality, who still try completely unacceptable tricks, such as:

  • blocking accounts
  • limiting maximum stakes in case of too great a possible loss
  • cancellation of winning bets
  • unjustified delay in payments

But before we completely discourage you from the game, we would like to reassure you that most of the bookmakers we examined are absolutely reliable, especially the offices with a long history and operating for decades.

However, if, in spite of all this, we rate a betting site lower than 5 in this section, we are indirectly suggesting that you avoid the office as far away as possible.

7. Payment speed

This is also a relatively clear, easy-to-score section.

If a sports betting site credits a player with a larger prize, without any problems, in a matter of seconds, then he has already earned a higher score from us.

If you make all this available through several possible payment methods – bank transfer, credit card, electronic wallet, cryptocurrency – you can expect even higher points. But if he doesn’t even charge a handling fee for the transaction, the 10 is already flying for him.

If, on the other hand, he does the opposite of all this, i.e. pays slowly and with difficulty, gives few options, and even charges high management costs for his service, then we will certainly express our displeasure to our readers.

8. Customer service

In the last part, we evaluate the access routes, how effectively and, of course, the company’s attitude to any problems that may arise. An office receives a high score from us if it is available on at least four communication channels, such as:

  • phone
  • live chat
  • e-mail
